after this one, i can definitely say I'm done with Colleen Hoover. I've read 4 of her considered best books, and I didn't particularity like either of them. the thing about her is that I LOVE the concept of her books. the execution? heh. not really. I also have issues with her writing: 1/4 of it is very beautiful and I like it a lot, it feels nearly poetical, and the other 3/4 is just so mediocre to me, even bad. I definitely think she's way overhyped, but I mean, tastes are tastes.
moving on this book in particular, as I said, I loved the concept behind it, and I highlighted many quotes, but I ended up finding it very mediocre. I think the romance is what ruined it all: it felt very nonsense and ruined most of the emotional scenes. it definitely took way too much in the novel than what I would've preferred. the characters were fine, while I do wish we dive more into kenna. it was mostly plotless and I found it slow and repetitive over time. at the end, I'm sad to say I didn't enjoy this as much as I hoped to.

LOVED this book. It wasn't emotionally draining like It End With Us, which I appreciate greatly. I still hate Colleen Hoover's name choices, but I adore how she creates character development. Loved this so much, highly recommend.

This book was so emotional.... it was very similar to All Your Perfects in the sense that this whole book was emotional. Happy tears, sad tears, and angry tears were all shed during this (most were in the last 50 pages). CoHo really knows how to pack an emotional punch and this one hit hard 💔

"Are you gonna live in your sadness or are you gonna die in it?"

I've only read three books by Colleen Hoover, but this book was by far the best. Reminders of Him tells the story of Kenna, who after being released from prison five years after a tragic accident, goes on a journey to reconnect with her daughter who was taken from her shortly after birth, and Ledger, the man in town who stands the best chance of helping her forge that connection.

This book was a beautiful story of forgive and healing. I sobbed almost the entirety of this book. It was so good, I devoured this in one afternoon, I wish I could give it more than five stars.

I'm on the fence between 2/2.5 stars. I will say that Colleen is not a horrible writer by any means. I just think that some of the plot points may have needed a second or third opinion before going to draft and then an editor. I did feel sympathy for Kenna up until a certain point.
Then when we find out that Scotty was actually alive for another six more hours prior to his death? What? I understand being scared out of your mind but at least call the cops/911! Ledger didn't impress me when it came to his interactions with Kenna. Surely you had to have known what your best friend's girlfriend looked like.
I liked Ledger around Diem but I think he was too quick to forgive Kenna. My favorite characters for some reason tend to be the minor/ side ones and Ramon + Lady Diana were no exception.
