Trigger Warning for a pedophilia sequence within a story AND a rape sequence on page, but off page for sixteen year period.
I can't say that I love the story on an overall basis. Not something I would usually pull. I would not have read the graphic novel, but now I picked up the first four to see how well they adapted the visual medium to the auditory medium.
I have to say this the real reason I picked it up, was because of the author, Neil Gaiman. He intrigues me. I'm not really interested in most of his work, but I'm a fan of him. I love his voice and his ability to pull the reader in.
Some of these stories are pure genius. BUT, there are a few stories that creeped me out OR disgusted me. One was about pedophilia and the other was a raped sequence that was not a one time affair, but a sixteen year abusive relationship (most of it off screen), but you understood that it was continually occurring.
This is a masterpiece of an audiobook. The talent involved is TOP notch. Everyone and anyone of the greats probably was trying to get involved with this project.

As my first audiobook, I was very impressed by the production and execution of the stories! I was completely unaware of the Sandman comics, so it was all very new.
However, my rating is purely based on taste. Personally, I found it very hard to listen to some episodes (those containing sick torture, necrophilia and rape). Although these scenes were few and far between, it still weighs heavily on my rating.
Overall, I was very impressed by the quality of the audiobook, but not so much by the content.

This was such an amazing listening experience. So excited to have the incomparable graphic novels brought to life in my ears. Check out my full review here. https://youtu.be/u6gOu1ogzPU
Great adaptation of the graphic novels with a wide and good multi-cast. Listen to it and then read the graphic novels
I don’t know what liking this adaptation says about me. It is not what I expected but I loved it. It was depressing, captivating, disturbing, entertaining, wicked yet enthralling. I liked some episodes more than others. 24hrs scarred me for life. What I loved the most was the multifaceted portrayal of humanity. There is no denying the brilliance of James McAvoy’s performance as Dream. This is definitely worth exploring and I can’t wait to read the actual comics/graphic novels.
I never imagined a graphic novel could deliver so much.

It was SO GOOD, you guys!!! I realized how good it was within the first five minutes and almost started crying due to joy. I wasn’t sure how a graphic novel/comic series/whatever you want to call it would adapt to audio, but it’s PERFECT. Gaiman himself narrates the parts you’d be able to see if you were reading it, and there’s a whole horde of actors playing all the different characters. They all do an amazing job and Gaiman has the perfect voice. In addition, it’s produced kind of like an old-timey radio show or like a podcast with a plot — there are musical breaks, sound effects, etc. When is the next one coming out??????
This is an audio play (think war of the worlds), not an audiobook. I don't think I really enjoy hearing the stage directions, random sound effects and musical cues. That being said, the voice acting is phenomenal - particularly James McAvoy as Dream. There is a lot of graphic violence, things like necrophilia, rape, and more which I wasn't really comfortable with and didn't rest easy with me. As someone who's not familiar with DC lore, the longer-form pieces that reference all sort of random characters and plots from other series mean nothing to me and weren't enjoyable. The stand-alone single stories are quite good (except for the dumb cat one which felt like cat fanfiction) and that was where this really shines. If they make more of this series with this cast, I would definitely consider listening on.
The story just seemed to drag on. The narration was perfect, just wish the story had been more. I usually love Mr. Gaiman's works.
