First read of 2023

I love Alexa Martin and I decided that my first book of 2023 will be one of hers…and she does it again with book 3! This one is extra special as it resonates with strong, motivated, smart women, who not only make mistakes and are accountable for them - but also pick their girls up from mistakes they’ve made and do the same. I really enjoyed this one. Right balance of steaminess and love, strong women coming together to motivate and support each other, and sisterhood.

It’s a friends to lovers, slow burn of a will they won’t they with the mix of allll the strong female friendships, 7/11 taquitos, and Parks and Recreation on Netflix.

I loved everything about this book. Maxwell Lewis is such a cinnamon roll lead and you just want to root for him and Brynn. They clearly like each other but it’s also clear they got a lot of family baggage (A LOT)!!

What I love about Martins book is they can be silly and goofy but also deal with real issues. These characters feel like a real friend group and the WAGS have such a strong bond. I love how they banded together around Brynn and helped make her and Maxwell a thing!

I am happy and said at the same time to only have one book left in this series!

UGH. I loved Brynn and Maxwells chemistry. Brynn is so confident and sure of herself and felt like I knew her from page one from being an important side character in the other two books. The plot isn't revelational but the dialogue was spot on. I was swooning! Would absolutely be here for more of their relationship.

This book is almost as good as the second one. Honestly the romance is not the best part of the story, it’s the way Brynn and her friends are always there for each other no matter what. The misunderstanding between the couple drags on a bit too long but this story is so much about the love of friends and family. Alexa Martin is one of my favorite romance writers because she makes even friendship and family just as romantic. It’s so endearing and charming with hot scenes too!

I would have really liked this if there was any depth to Maxwell’s character at all. We got to learn so much about Brynne and the kind of person she is and almost nothing more than “hot, nice, thoughtful sports guy” about him.

However, I DID really enjoy the Easter egg about hashtags being annoying or overused (I borrowed the audiobook from my library so going back to find the exact wording is not going to happen.) I thought it was a really funny nod to the most annoying part of Intercepted.

This book was going fine until Brynn acted like a crazy person and completely torpedoed her relationship based on a ridiculous and completely suspicious conversation. I liked her so much in the other books in the series and Maxwell is fantastically sweet and sexy but this plot device to cause their breakup was junk. I've loved this series from the start but am really disappointed in this one.

(free review copy) Alexa Martin, please NEVER EVER STOP WRITING THESE BOOKS ❤️ they make me actually have hope that pro football isn’t as horrible as I usually think it is and the men are swoon-worthy and sensitive and the women are fierce and hilarious. LOVE. You could read this as a stand-alone but I’d start back at book 1 to get all the backstory!
