The whole Son of Penguin concept is a little hokey, but this run was a lot of fun. I like the supporting characters and it's doing a lot to make Barbara Gordon's Batgirl feel relevant.

3.5/5 - I really love Hope Larson. Having read her Goldie Vance series from BOOM!, it's nice to see some of the LGBT+ themes there leak over into the superhero sphere as well. The core story of this, the son of a penguin stuff, is fun but the Supergirl stuff at the end? I really appreciate Larson's activism, I do, but like, this feels like she's trying a bit too hard with that one?
Was pleasantly surprised by this volume since the previous wasn't the best. I liked the art style a lot and the story arc was very engaging. 4.5/5
The second volume of Batgirl follows Barbara as she becomes entangled and involved with Ethan Cobblepot, son of Penguin. She soon discovers his involvement with "a big bad" tech company. Then the volume switches and Batgirl teams up with Super girl in National City for a rescue mission and ends with them turning on the Bat signal without the commissioner's permission.
Again, another volume that is just okay. I enjoyed some of the commentary on technology and social media and the "girl power" from Batgirl and Supergirl. This volume feels rushed and that there are two different plots being told. I enjoyed the ending and the cliffhanger feeling and interested to see what happens next.

This was a pretty good volume. Babs is back in Burnside and maybe sort of dating Ethan Cobblepot. Who may or may not be evil. With tons of tech money flooding into Burnside rents are sky rocketing, personal safety is dubious, and privacy may be a thing of the past... and obviously Batgirl is there to fix it all.
I love Babs but I don’t understand the need to saddle her with a romantic partner. In both volumes, it’s dragged the story down. I want to read about Babs being a detective. And I want to get to know her friends. They’re way more interesting than these boring dudes in her life!
