This was like a TV show brought to life and I loved it. Kyoshi is awesome. I wish we got more time to develop her and finish the arc she was on. I feel like right as she learned things it was over. Plus I wanted Team Avatar and we only got half of that. This was good, but the first one was better.

I basically read this book because I wanted to learn the whole picture after reading the first one but it felt like a chore (much like finishing the previous one). I don't really like how it's written, it feels like it wants to be different and more "complex" and it's really not. The story basically follows Kyoshi messing up and there's not much else to it honestly. I liked seeing Kuruk but it didn't match what we know about him (what about his wife and the face thief spirit?). It was interesting to learn more about fire nation's politics but that was pretty much it. Rangi didn't get much character development and the friends she made in the other book are barely in this one. I also feel like this is such a short window on Kyoshi's life who lived more than two hundred years and it really didn't satisfy much the need I had to learn more about her. I won't be giving the other books a chance.
