I love books about books, and this was a very entertaining story. Two generations of women, their stories told from two different time periods, and in the end come to a happy conclusion. A story about love, regret and just trying to live a life worth living.

Wow, there is a lot going on in this book, stretching to create parallels in the two timelines, straining credulity with some of the plot twists. But hey, it's a fun book about libraries and books, book thieves and the struggles of women to be taken seriously and have careers as well as families. An easy read, and it should make good book discussion title.

I really liked this one. The mystery was good, but I felt like the end was botched. It wasn’t explained well enough and there’s no way a search in 1914 wouldn’t have included the dumb waiter. Or that the repeated burglaries wouldn’t have damaged the cage and/or floor. The fact that there was no second copy of Jack’s manuscript seemed like a stretch too - he submitted the original? C’mon. Don’t even get me started on Wakeman and the fact that there was no ability to appeal, especially after he published her thesis (which was pretty obviously going to be the outcome from the first time it was mentioned).

Definitely want to visit the New York Public Library after reading this book - but then I love every library!

good fun for book and library lovers.

I’ve been on a thriller and romance kick for quite some time now and I was feeling the need to read something different. I wanted historical fiction but nothing too heavy. Enter…..The Lions of Fifth Avenue.

The story alternates between 1913 and 1993 following generations of one family. In 1913 the family lives in the newly constructed NYC public library. The husband is the superintendent and they have a small apartment INSIDE the library.

In 1993, the great granddaughter now works at the library and books have started to go missing. But this isn’t the first time. It also happened in 1913 and her family may have been involved!

Family secrets, family history, a mystery spanning generations, historical fiction.

I really enjoyed this book. It has some heavy themes but it was light enough to feel like a great summer beach read!

Trigger Warning: suicide, infidelity, death of parent
mysterious medium-paced

The New York Public Library was the real star of this book - I got lost looking up additional facts and virtual tours of this place - would love to visit it one day.

The end was a little too “Scooby Doo” for me. I wanted more history too, since this is historical fiction and all. The historical aspects came off as very surface level and didn’t really support the overall plot which was a bit of a disappointment.
