Really interesting, if sad, read. The details of the library in the book were great, and there were some good characters, but there were definitely parts that needed editing and several major plot points were predictable.
I want to give this 5 stars, but a hard no for me is infidelity painted in a positive light. Otherwise I loved the history (real and invented) and the dual timelines felt easy to follow and both intriguing in their own right. I recently visited the new York public library and Bryant Park and it just reminded me that it's time to go back!
A series of rare book thefts affect two generations of New York Public Library employee’s families.
I love novels about books and libraries, but I wasn’t a fan of this missing book caper.

Oh myyy it took me almost a month to finish this book. There was something that just wasn’t grabbing my attention- I think it was a little dragged out. But overall it was a good story and the ending was great. I think it wrapped everything up nicely
I really enjoyed this book. Love the story woven into the historical building that the author picked.
Loved the opportunity to reflect on just how difficult the early days of feminism actually were.
Although I'm usually hesitant with dual time-lines, the approach worked really well in this book.

A wonderful read about the New York Public Library.

I enjoyed this book. It read like historical fiction although it is not. I liked the way the author juxtaposed the 1913/14 characters with the 1993 characters and then drew them all together at the end. I thought her characters were fairly realistic (with a couple of exceptions) with fairly realistic faults, failings, and motivations. I was surprised to see, upon completing the book, that it had received a number of bad reviews. I enjoyed it and I’d recommend it.
