This book fell flat for me. I didn't feel like there was enough suspense/mystery for it to be a thriller, and not enough emotion or connection with the characters to be a compelling family story.
The POV changes between characters rapidly, and I didn't feel like each character had a distinctive voice, so it was hard to follow at times. In places the writing was fairly rudimentary. The POVs didn't feel realistic to how a 40 year old man, older woman, 30-year old women, etc would actually think/speak.
There's also various side plots that just fade away pointlessly eg.Leah's stalker and her romance at the party. . These may well be explored in the second book, but just felt unecessary to this one. The incident that caused the family split was also not deeply explained, and didn't feel like a satisfactory reason for such dramtic consequences.
Overall this book was forgettable. The writing style didn't allow you to feel connected to the characters, and therefore I didn't care much about what happened to them. I don't think I will be picking up the sequel.
