Just can’t even describe how Sarah Addison Allen can make me feel everything. It was like I could hold the characters in the palms of my hands and hold them to my chest and rock them like a baby. This was just so real and beautiful and cute. It made me feel the love that these characters were sharing and want it so badly. Just loved it.
Eh, I loved Garden Spells but this book just pales as a sequel.
When I finished [b:Garden Spells|1158967|Garden Spells (Waverley Family, #1)|Sarah Addison Allen|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347309330s/1158967.jpg|2689445] I would have been ok without it having a sequel. But now, after having read it, I can't imagine not being able to spend more time with those magically quirky Waverlys. This was a great book to read in between the more thought provoking heavy reads I am accustom to reading.
I really enjoyed reading First Frost. Fall, recipes, women bonding...this was a sweet and magical story.
3.5 stars. Super cute! And the perfect equivalent of a beach read but in the fall.

The long anticipated sequel to Garden Spells, Allen brings us back to the Waverly sisters 10 years later. The always unusual Waverley family is even more unusual during the lead up to the first frost of the season and this year is no different. Claire wrestles with a new kitchen venture, Sidney is balancing her own worries while watching her daughter navigate high school as a Waverley. Allen weaves a gorgeous blend of magic and small town life, and this is a worthy sequel to the original tale. If you haven't read Garden Spells though, start with that one before this as it truly is a sequel. (I won a copy of this through a Goodreads giveaway, but my review is my own. I would definately purchased my own copy if I hadn't won that one.)
Not as good as Garden Spells, but Allen's signature style and warmth.
The end of this book brought me around, but for the most part, I didn’t enjoy this one nearly as much as the first in the series. Because of the end, I don’t regret reading it, but I also don’t feel I would have missed much if I’d skipped it. Another reader mentioned that the conflict was thin, and I 100% agree. After learning the characters’ quirks and issues in the first book and seeing them able to resolve and move past them pretty effectively, it just wasn’t believable that they’d be having the issues they were seven years later.
