I like this one less than Garden Spells, mainly because of the chapters from Russell Zahler. They just felt so unnecessary? Especially since the con he pulls feels so anticlimactic. I love Bay and Mariah and who they grow into as they've gotten older, but Sidney & Claire felt less interesting than in the previous book. Overall, still one I love to revisit and recommend. And it never fails to make me want to cook up the recipes mentioned in the book!

This was a very nice book, and if I hadn't read Garden Spells first, I would have given it a higher rating. However, as a sequel, it left me feeling a little disappointed. It wasn't very substantial, the suspense leading up to the "big event" in the book wasn't there, and the magic just wasn't...magical. I do still love the way Sarah Addison Allen writes. Her colorful and descriptive prose really set the scene, and it made an otherwise ho-hum read something a bit more sparkly and fresh.
fast-paced

This is the second Sarah Addison Allen book I have read and I now want to go back to read some of her earlier titles like Garden Spells which is apparently related to First Frost. The family in First Frost was endearing and quirky and I need to know more about them!

Sweet read. There was no pepper in the fig and pepper bread ingredients?? I would’ve made the bread!

This book was just what I needed when I needed it.

I couldn't help but feel something was a little missing here. The drama with the stranger wasn't as compelling as any issues with the Mattesons would have been. It leads me to believe that this novel is setting up not only a third Waverly novel, but also a stand alone novel about the stranger. I could be wrong.

Ugh I have such a weird feeling with these books
they are nice to read, they have a warm feeling about them, you know nothing truly bad is going to happen... but that doesnt mean that the not truly bad thing has to be silly or inconsistent.
8/30

Great continuation of the Waverley family's story. I sank into this like a warm blanket and just enjoyed the ride. Really hoping there will be a third book someday soon!

For maybe the first 40 pages I didn't particularly enjoy this one. I loved Garden Spells and this is supposed to be a sequel of sorts. They just weren't connecting for me. Then something just clicked and the "magic" always found in Sarah Addison Allen books appeared for me. After reading a string of moderately depressing stories, this was like a breath of fresh air. Always sweet, satisfying, and nicely resolved. Sometimes I just want a happy ending and this author delivers.
