I liked this one, but it was FAR longer than it needed to be. There were a lot of sections that had the characters treading over the same old ground in a marginally new way that could have all been cut for pacing.

It was heartbreaking and uplifting, a great exploration of moving on from trauma and allowing people into your space and life all wrapped up in a hockey romance.

Most MM sports romance plots deal with homophobia, so this book’s queer-friendly world was so refreshing. It let the writer talk about how queer couples experience emotional and sexual abuse, and how rookies can be vulnerable to manipulation without anyone in the league noticing. I liked the new perspective, and honestly now I’m wondering how much situations like these happen in professional sports.
It also has a healthy take on kink and D/s dynamics, and I love it when the younger, shorter person is in charge.
