As a romance novel: fun and enjoyable. Pacing is somewhat unconventional but it works which I thought was fun. Wish there'd been a BIT more development of the relationship before they got together.
As a hockey novel: maybe I just have to face the fact that I am too picky about this aspect. There is actually some number of 'action' scenes in this which I absolutely count in the books favour even if they're not the best written or whatever. I don't like the changes they made to the league though and I don't like the way that long stretches of time you can just forget it's a hockey book.
Part of this is the way homophobia is like not a thing here I guess. Which - in addition to the way I just kept mentally comparing everything to what irl Kyle Beach went through - made it hard to suspend my disbelief. It all felt weirdly artificial to me and I couldn't fully get into it.
Also did they just play one single game as the scf? I am not skipping back in the audiobook to check I didn't miss anything so I'm not 100% confident but I think they did? Yeah that's about the level of accuracy here.

dnf'ed this once because i didn't have it in me to read a book that long in first person at the time.
dnf'ing this time because i was looking at the second book in the series and saw that it has some pretty heavy content warnings (alcoholism and on-page binge-drinking, accompanying trauma). anyone who knows me knows that i have pretty heavy hang ups about alcohol/ not being in control. also literally last week i read a book with a main character who was a (sober) alcoholic. it was almost impossible for me to get through some parts of that so i know i can't do it this time.
unfortunate, because i think i would have loved these books. not blaming the authors! you gotta write what you gotta write. but content warnings are there so you know what to avoid and as such i am avoiding. peace out.
