Everyday I wake up and throughout the day I ask myself this question many times: Am I smart or am I an idiot? I then go trying to answer this question but could never get to a solid conclusion. I asked myself this question while I read this book. Throughout my youth people will scare others into believing that reading classics is hard, that to fully comprehend a classic it takes time yet I felt none of the feelings mentioned above. The ideas that are in this book were asked to myself when I was younger and I once again come to another question: Don't we all ask or ponder about the subjects that are in this book? Which then leads me to: Am I smart or am I an idiot?
This was a tough read for me. The first half was hard to pay attention because well, it’s rambling. The second part was easier but it kinda rambled. But that’s the whole point, it’s the rambling of the underground man…. I just struggled to focus through the whole book. I hope the rest of his books aren’t similar, because I really want to read other books by Dostoyevsky. Glad I pushed through this one though, it had some insightful parts.
