A very interesting book about the inner depths of humanity - complete with absurd and cryptic humour. Funnily enough, what seemed to be rather 'out there' as I first began to read started to parallel myself and others by the time I reached the end. For anyone unacquainted with Dostoyevsky, I recommend they start right here.

this is easily one of the greatest things i’ve ever read. it’s my first time reading a work of dostoyevsky, and i was surprised by how easy it was to comprehend- aside from a lot of vocabulary i needed to look up. i need more. i want these words to consume me. i want them pumping through my veins. the underground man both horrified me and yet was relatable. he is the part of our souls we don’t wish to acknowledge. i am going to miss him i think.

Nate D says it all really, am glad to have got to No 8! This book is depressing, infuriating, insightful and occasionally very funny although I’m not sure I’d have laughed out loud if it wasn’t for George Guidall’s sublime narration who somehow interpreted everything so perfectly. It was like living inside that misanthrope’s head and you wouldn’t necessarily want to do that on your own.

excellent but performs middlingly as a beach read
