my 4th and favorite of his books so far. SO RIDICULOUSLY MOVING AND SELF-AWARE. political and theological and literary. I think what tolstoy is for the russian soul dostoevsky is for all people.

So I don't know how to rate this, because it was so painful to read, but as an act of character-writing, hats-off. It's just that the character invented being an incel?

one of the books that I highlighted the most. F.D's works are always a hard read because of how the characters are so despicable and yet we (at least I) always find similarities between their thoughts and ours â I also envy the normal man as much as him. đ”âđ«
no matter how interesting the 1st part was (and my favorite passages were from it!) the occurrences shown in the 2nd that lead to his retreat from society are incredibly surprising. it reminds me of some things in Sapolsky's book that explains the neurological part of the process of taking an action (excuse my lack of knowledge in this, lol) and Dostoevsky was able to fully describe this whole process in this story.
