My reaction upon reading this book was to want to go back and read the original. This is not to say Hope Larson isn't amazing, but rather that it was not a necessary adaptation. Perhaps if it gets kids to read the quintet, it will have done its job.

I really enjoyed seeing the story in this form, and I thought the artwork was well done. I would have given it five stars, but I felt like some of the story was lost in the transition to graphic novel. I think anyone who enjoys a SF story, as well as graphic novels, will enjoy this book.
A new look at a classic. I enjoyed this version and I can see the graphic novel interpretation pulling in fans who might've passed this book up in its previous form. I'm a fan of Larson's work I think she deserves a lot of credit for taking on such a beloved classic. I liked the blue coloration in the book, though I will admit that there were parts that did not benefit from the blue palette (i.e. The Man with the Red Eye). I can't imagine the story in full color though so I guess the only way to remedy this issue would've been to illustrate the story in black and white.
The blue palette used helped me get into the space travel. The way Larson illustrated this was a huge appeal for me. That being said, I would be interested to see her continue with the rest of the series.
Recommended to fans of fantasy grades 5-8.

I know so many people LOVE this story, but it’s just mid for me…I always wonder if I’d feel differently had I read it as a kid.

Hope Larson did a very good job of including all the essential elements of the original novel. My suggestion would be to perhaps use colour to help emphasize the story. It is illustrated in black, white and powder blue and changing the one colour at different points I think would have been quite impactful.
The artwork was nice, but I didn't enjoy the story as much as I did when I was 11.
