One of my childhood classics. I always enjoy listening to these about once a year.

First Read-through: January 2022
Alongside reading the gorgeous illustrated edition of Philosopher's Stone for the first time, I also listened to this wonderful audiobook narrated by Jim Dale. It was such a special way to re-experience one of my favourite books and stories. I'd highly recommend it, particularly for other avid Harry Potter fans who have read the print books multiple times. It genuinely changed the way I feel about this first book in the series. <3

You can read more of my thoughts (about both the audiobook and the story itself) in my review of the illustrated edition, which can be found here: https://app.thestorygraph.com/reviews/28a8c489-828c-48dc-a944-b4bdc89e7c60.

Ending the year on a good note by finishing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which I reread with my bestie Ofélia. I gave it a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 rating the first time I read it and being back at Hogwarts still feels equally magical as the first time I entered this world. Fun fact: it wasn’t until my time at uni that I finally got to read the books and watch the films, since my mum didn’t let me as a kid because she thought Dobby (of all magical beings!) would haunt me in my sleep. 🧚‍♂️

I’d forgotten how fun these books are to read, how funny Dumbledore and Ron are, and I appreciated the brave Neville Longbottom even more this time. Bless his pure soul! I wish I could give him a big hug. 🐸

Pure nostalgia is what this book exudes.

Even if you’re a first time reader or a re-reader you can’t help but be enthralled by the world presented in this book.

Though I love this story, i feel like it must be stated that i do not tolerate its author’s actions and beliefs, and i try my best to separate the author from its creation.

i’m excited to read the rest of the series as it picks up momentum since the reason why it took me so long to read this books is that it was very easy for me to put it down ( up until the last two or three chapters as the climax approaches) but that is expected seeing as it is the first book.

Can’t wait to start the next one <3

Audiobook - 8 hours 24 minutes - I found this very hard to rate and review. How does one place a number on a book I have read probably at least 8 times, that I have loved for nearly a decade, especially in the wake of discourse which tarnishes the author and certain content and themes within the novel? This is my attempt. The writing style is extremely good - engaging, easy to read, but not childish or patronising. The plot is very good once Harry gets to Hogwarts: before this it is a little slow-going and could be better being shorter. There is something extremely comforting about the world the books are built in which makes it instantly enjoyable. It is very difficult to separate nostalgia, frustration, and genuine feelings about this book series, but I tried.
