Very well written and extremely grim. A realistic and heartbreaking portrayal of how and why some girls fall through the cracks and into prostitution...and how they end up trapped there with no way out. Frank creates deep, interesting, and compelling characters, but the story was almost too much to bear at times, between the abuse, the hopelessness, the child pornography & prostitution, and the trafficking. Dime is a good character and her voice and desire to break the cycle and tell the story of these girls helps balance out the grimness of the subject matter.

Real rating is 4 and 1/2 stars. Dime is truly one of the most genuine characters I have ever read in a story. Her heart is made of pure gold, and she deserved so much better than getting involved in the sex trafficking world. I related with her love of literature. I just wish I knew what her real name is...it's definitely not dime, because L.A. Nicknamed her that because she only had a dime in her pocket when L.A. brought her home to Daddy. I hope her real name is something beautiful and sentimental. Her name not being mentioned in the book shows how there are people in this world that are so cruel, they don't even want to learn your first name. Your real name.

Wow. I literally said wow three times out loud after reading the last page. Stunningly beautiful writing that illuminates a dark and terrifying reality that I fear most of us are ignoring even though it's clearly still rampant in our society. Dime is a character I won't soon forget and I feel like this is a must read for those who care about the tragedy of sexual slavery in this country.

Difficult to read, but lost points because it was a little too contrived, too Big Message.
Teenage prostitution is something we hear about, but never imagine it'll happen to us or someone we know. Dime makes it clear that it could happen, and how easily. All it takes is someone more willing to be friendly, kind, even loving to a young girl feeling unloved and with no place to go. That's the difficult part, and how Dime's life falls apart is heartbreaking to read. Having said that, there were moments when I had a strong Go Ask Alice feeling, where it was a little too much of a message and thus lost some of its impact.

3.5 stars, lowered my initial rating half a star for the abrupt ending. Full review to come.
