wtf was that plot twist… the ending was extremely rushed and the relationship dynamics made absolutely no sense at all, especially how bel could suddenly ditch her dad by listening to the woman she was deeply distrustful of until like a few hours prior..
the main character was obnoxious and selfish, ash and her had literally 0 chemistry except for him tolerating her foolish antics.
the plot was completely made up along the way, which is so sad because at the start, i thought this would be a 5 star read. and the reasons for charlie wanting to murder rachel were scant at best, so it made absolutely no sense. it wouldve been better if bel showed some personality traits of charlie that could have been consistent with the actual cruelty they portrayed him to have, rather than js saying that oh he was the big bad villain in the end.
there was no nuance or any foreshadowing, which makes it seem like the author was just trying to tie loose ends rather than having planned this from the start. when i say i couldn’t have guessed the plot twist, it usually is a very positive feedback, but in this case, there’s absolutely no way anyone could have seen this coming.
the start and end were slow paced and suddenly everything possible happens in the last 50-80 pages.
and genuinely what the fuck was that ending, like 3 ppl disappear and theres absolutely no investigation of what the hell happened to them???? like come on…. and its hilarious how they all seem to turn on their parents of 16 yrs to live with a woman they had no recollection of, like fine i get wanting to reconnect with her but they all just listen to her and try to cover up the crime and death of their parents???

I know many didn’t like Bel and while she isn’t necessarily likable she is that way for a multitude of reasons. I think it’s important to remember that first she’s a teenager so she isn’t always rational. And she experienced a TON of a trauma and the people who were supposed to love and protect her lied to her for the entirety of her life.
Much like AGGGTM most of the characters are morally grey. Many have a lot of unlikable qualities just like normal people.
My biggest complaint is that it felt really predictable. I literally predicted almost every single thing within one chapter after Rachel returned so that was not great.
Now for the complaints
Whyyyy is Rachel just so well-adjusted and normal immediately?
The stalker guy felt really random and unnecessary. Like why do we need this extra trauma.
Charlie’s death. He deserved prison or torture. Nothing else. What a horrendous human being. The Taco Bell story had me FURIOUS.
How did she slip off an ankle cuff from losing a little bit of weight?
I felt bad for Carter and her mom sucked but her ambivalence to her dad’s death was really weird.
