The book is good as expected from Holly Jackson! I can’t guess who the real culprit is until they reveal it. The only flaw in this book is the motive of murder from the father is a bit blurry. Like i can’t clearly grasp what is the actual reason of him wanting Rachel to be dead.

good mystery to keep the plot going but the plot twist felt pretty obvious

 Rating: 4.75 stars

I’ve been avoiding mystery novels since my last disappointing one and The Reappearance of Rachel Price reminded me why I love the genre.

Holly Jackson gives us everything we could want and more. The story is twisty and you always have questions. When you think you have the answers, you find more questions.

She does a great job at leaving us crumbs all throughout the story and then pulling every little bit together to present us a picture we could’ve never seen.

The characters are interesting and multifaceted and they all bring something to the story. No one is there without purpose and nothing is said or done without intention.

Even though the pacing isn’t necessarily fast, I still found it to be addicting. I had so many questions and no theories that I was desperate for answers.

The only thing that could’ve made this better for me was if we just had a little bit more time with Bel and Ash.

Holly Jackson had me hooked, stressed, and out of my slump with this one

3.5 stars. The story itself was interesting although it should have been condensed. The most annoying/hateable narrator ever wow, super unrealistic at times, but a quick read.

another amazing one BUT PLEASE HOLLY JACKSON CAN YOU LET ONE JUST ONE OF YOUR COUPLES HAVE A HAPPY EMDING I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE

I think this is my favorite of holly jacksons books. I liked the drama of it a lot. I also think bel price is the most unreliable narrator. Bel is a moody traumatized teenage girl who has to deal with the reappearance of her mom after 16 years. Holly jackson is so heavy handed with bel’s internal monologue. Her abandonment issues are very prominent and it’s clear that bels perspective is skewed from the start. The mystery of this book is bel trying to figure out how her mom first disappeared, what happened in those 16 years, and how she reappeared. At the same time her family is being filmed for a documentary. Despite the writing feeling way too direct, I was still surprised by the plot twists after the 70% mark. It was dramatic and exciting and exactly the entertaining story I like.

Still, I think there are some issues with this book. I didn’t like the ending at all. The plot twists were extremely dark, yet the author tries tie everything up into a neat happy bow. I think I particularly disliked how Carter’s story was handled. It felt too simple. I also disliked how the ending simplified the morality of all the characters. It became a battle of two sides with no nuance.

This is a fun book!! Bel is a fun character whos snarky and entertaining . I would recommend this to people who want a quick and dramatic ya mystery.
