The cover does look awesome, though.
Oh, but you know what would be really awesome? If it crossed over with Warriors or Seekers! Not directly, of course. But if at one point they said something about seeing a flame-colored cat or something like that. Maybe have one of the cat's battles with the dogs from their view!
Edit(5/1/20): y'all are really getting this worked up over a literal stranger mildly disliking a book?
Going into this, I wasn't sure how I'd feel, as I've only ever read the Warriors series, and I guess part of me felt this (and Seekers) was just a money-grabbing ploy. HAH! I was wrong. There were many new names for objects and places, that were different to those in the Warriorverse, yet made perfect sense, especially considering this is told from a dog's POV.
The main character Lucky is well rounded, funny (I actually laughed out loud at one point) and I really connected with him. He's sassy, tough when necessary but a softie at heart! His character development was great, and I loved the sibling dynamic between Lucky and Bella! I actually loved all the characters - each made a strong and lasting impression, were necessary and enriched the plot. I just want to snuggle all of them!I also absolutely LOVED how the difference in thinking between Lone Dogs, Pack Dogs and Leashed Dogs was explored. I especially liked the devotion, and logic behind said devotion, that the Leashed Dog characters show to their 'longpaws' (humans), devotion which Lucky struggles to understand, given that he used to belong to an abusive family. Everyone is a product of their past. I hope Lucky can see that he can still change who he is!
The plot was also excellent, with many obstacles to surmount, believable character development, a tense af climax and a great cliffhanger. I basically read this in one whole sitting! All in all - highly recommend, whether you've read Warriors or not. Very enjoyable.
(Apparently this is written by a different 'Erin' from the 'Erin' of the Warriors series. I love them both!)Graphic: Animal cruelty, Abandonment
Moderate: Death, Grief, Injury/Injury detail

Well, now I feel even more embarrassed, because it wasn't all that good. It starts out will Lucky (wow, really?) experiencing the "Big Growl" or whatever (which I'm pretty sure is an earthquake), and then heading out with a bunch of dogs who he resists calling his Pack because he's such a Lone Dog. They encounter trouble like dogs, ruined homes, etc., and Lucky saves the Pack, earning their respect, but eventually left them because he's a "Lone Dog" not a Pack dog.
If you're jumping up and down with excitement after reading this, you're crazy. Not a lot really happened. All this book succeeded in was making me nostalgic for [b:Into the Wild|111332|Into the Wild (Warriors, #1)|Erin Hunter|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327994729s/111332.jpg|1346922], which was simple but exciting, heartwarming and fun. In this book, almost all of the characters grated on my nerves. Lucky was acting like the queen of Persia, his sister wouldn't listen to him, and all the dogs kept holding on to their owners so fervently, that it got annoying fast (because it was like mentioned every three pages). Also, the dogs were so stupid I wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into them. So they see some humans and Alfie has to be fricken RESTRICTED because he won't listen to Lucky and goes racing toward the humans, even though THEY LOOK DANGEROUS. Are you cereal (and yes, I meant to type cereal as serious)? At first I loved Bruno, but even then the Hunters' had to ruin him and make him challenge Lucky.
Anyway, the reason this isn't a one is because I guess since this was the first book in the series, it was exciting and fresh. Really hope the second one will be better, or my stars won't be so generous.
