This collection defines “enchanting.” I’m in awe that I’ve lived 26 years without the wisdom of Moominmama or the sass of Little My. These characters found a special place in my heart that was just patiently waiting for them to arrive. I leave a star off this rating because I’d love to see the stories thread together in someway, even if it’s just being bookended by Snufkin and the newly named Teety-woo.

These are all so precious. I wish I could bundle in Tove’s mind and live there, I imagine it would be cozy.

Jansson, Tove: Det osynliga barnet och andra berättelser (?)
?
- Eka ruotsiks luettu kirja ja tiukahkoa teki. Kaikesta ei aina tapahtumissa pysyny messis. Lukunautinnosta ei kai voi oikeen puhua, mut mielenkiintoinen kokemus.

Need to revisit all Moomin reviews to write something more coherent, because all the books blew me away. I liked the gentleness of these short stories, and how often they were about coming to terms with who you are--whether that's through growth and change or accepting who you are at heart. The intro story about Snuffkin was my favorite. His friendship with Moomin--and the ways he feels stiffled by that friendship--is such a complicated subject to put in a kids' book, but kids are so much more world-smart than we give them credit for.

12/2022: Toisella lukukerralla tarinat olivat entistäkin rakkaampia. Vilijonkka joka pelkäsi onnettomuuksia on uskomattoman hyvä, Hemuli joka rakasti hiljaisuutta ihana, Hattivattien salaisuus aito hapuileva seikkailukertomus, ja Kuusi mitä ihanin tarina joulukuun alkuun.

09/2021: Pieniä kauniita ja elämänmakuisia tarinoita.

Beautiful, delightful prose in only the way Jansson can. The kind of stories that make you want to go for a long walk by yourself and then find beauty in a fallen tree.
