Top notch, so good

Judas eff, everyone! This is an instant new favourite for me. Something about Ashlyn Drewek's expert writing never fails to leave me gasping for air. Although I had only read one other book by her before diving into Malum (Roan Sinclair #1), I knew I was in for a ride. But even that would be an understatement!

It felt like a Romeo and Juliet retelling, but in the best way possible. Cassius and Graeme were incredible main characters, each of them having a distinct narrative voice as well as such beautiful thoughts about each other, and by the end of the book I was sobbing. By GOD, if my potential partner won't say the sort of stuff Graeme does, they don't need to even bother!?

The witchy aspect was also glorious, and I was enthralled by the Tennebrose world's dark magic. Learning more about each power, and seeing the ingenious twists and turns Ashlyn gave some conventional tropes and magics from the world of witchcraft, was a delight, and I honestly would read countless novels belonging in this series if only because the worldbuilding is mad good!

I'm diving into Igni Ferroque as we speak, and I strongly suggest you guys give this book a go!

Oh my goodness. I LOVED THIS! This may just be my book of the month. I did figure out pretty early on who was behind the mystery at hand, but plot twists still emerged! This was so well written, great world building, the spice was out of this world delicious, and it was all the spooky magic you could ask for. Bravo!

This book is what enemies to lovers truly embodies
Holyyyyy, I have never seen more tension in a book than between a Hewitt and a Corbin. Graeme and Cassius stole my heart just as they stole eachothers.
Every scene where they both went back for more just heightened their obvious need Vs want battle in both of themmm.
I'll give a proper review, quotes and all, when I'm better prepared but just read this book man.

Ashlyn Drewek NEVER fails, this is like a dark academia package and enemies to lovers if you twisted it with a whodunnit and somehow sprinkled in an elaborate (but not hard to understand) witchworld on top of that

I went into this one early blind, just totally judging a book by its cover and expecting a moody dark academia. The Romeo-Romeo witch vibes were kind of a surprise, and I liked it a lot. I don’t normally go for this age group, but they sort of acted more like young adults than teens, so that aspect wasn’t awful for me. And I always love an “I didn’t know who you were!!!!” moment.

The magic was interesting, and the world building was pretty straightforward but thorough enough to make you feel like you weren’t just in any old college. My main gripe is the way we got this rapid, telling-not-showing finale. And like, during a hug? Meh. But I loved those boys enough that it didn’t turn me all the way off.

I did enjoy the story. What I did not enjoy was finding out the author is a horrible person. 5 stars for that performance, 0 stars for the book
