2018:
it's the emotionality that gets me, and the way Carson can do it in a word, or in the spaces between words. The forbearance and affection of Geryon's mother ("maybe next time you can use a dollar bill instead of a ten for his hair"), the word degrading dropped like a stone near the end of the book. The ideas of time and flight and destiny. The little red dog (and its absence). It's just beautiful.

Meh. I guess Carson’s some sort of god in the poetry world, and she is undoubtedly smarter than I am, which is probably why I didn’t connect to it.

Who can blame a monster for being red?
Definitely unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Will likely read again

God she’s good

If you like erudite literary wankery I guess you'll probably like this. I can't help but believe that people who found this life changing maybe live quite sedate and dull lives. It was a cute tale and the formatting was interesting though the main compulsion to keep reading was just that it's so short and quick I knew I'd get there sooner rather than later. The characters were fine but not that remarkable and nor was the story anything but passably interesting.
TLDR: I'm not smart enough for this book but I'm glad people like it.
