Anne Carson

4.2 AVERAGE

I confess that I didn't really get this book. A novel written in verse can work and has before but doesn't here. It's not that Carson isn't a good writer. She is. I just didn't get the full depth of emotion from this that I felt like I was supposed to. I confess that some of that may just be that I'm not the biggest fan of poetry. That probably had something to do with my ambivalence toward this. I did finally catch on and appreciate what the author was doing but by then I didn't really care. It was simply a case of too little too late by then.

The sort of prose that encourages you to Feel more than think. The way things are described feels malleable, like a person's subjective experience always, and even the moments that actually get covered are "colored" by Geryon's experiences of them. The ways we organize our lives in memory

Weird and wonderful.

This is my favorite book
fast-paced

It’s been days and I’m still in awe of this.

"Spirit rules secretly alone the body achieves nothing
is something you know
instinctively at fourteen and can still remember even with hell in your head at sixteen."

"As in childhood we live sweeping close to the sky and now, what dawn is this."

Unique, tender read.
