I think it got overhyped for me. I really wanted to like it, but it never really grabbed me. I’m not sure I would have finished it had it been any longer.
Continuing to expand my parameters of what "counts" as a novel. Brilliant and strange and lovely.
From the moment I cracked this open, I knew it was going to be a five star book. Just so heartbreaking the whole time, even in its hopefulness. Hopeful in its heartbreak too. Anyway, just read it.

I could easily see like a short film or an indie film being made out of this. I was picturing it in my head as I was reading, with soft lighting and muted colors except for the red. Poetry is usually difficult for me, but I really loved this because it was verse, and the way Anne Carson paints the story flows so well together that I was never lost. I understood it and I was wrapped up in it. Can’t wait to read the sequel and more of Anne Carson’s works.

The premise of this was very very interesting and I'm always glad when I read something totally out of my comfort zone, but not did I fail to understand what was going on in this even in the slightest. Apart from some moments where I thought the descriptive imagery was done very well, I was mostly just lost - which I chalk up to my own ignorance.

“Words bounce. Words, if you let them, will do what they want to do and what they have to do.”
