An intentional, crafted, and elegant poem. Anne Carson's Autobiography of Red shape-shifts, genre-bends, and asks the reader to sympathize with monsters. It is a story about grief and love (and aren't all stories?) It is a story about boyhood, break-ups, and identity.

Anne Carson is such a gifted writer, she amazes me every time. The scenes between Geryon and Herakles were absolutely lovely, and Geryon is an amazing character.
However, the middle of the story was a little too slow to my tastes and I wish we had known the characters a little more.
Overall, a lovely read and I'm going to pick up Red Doc> as soon as I can.

My first Anne Carson book and she’s a master of her own craft, however I think I need to read a couple of more works to be fully submerged in her writing style. Still a beautifully tender tale unlike any other I’ve read.
Complex and compelling this story told in verse is one that I keep coming back to and thinking about.

I was born on October 22, 2012. It wasn’t long before I met the person who would change my life, but it didn’t last. I was very hurt and vowed to never get back together as I’d seen others do, but inevitably I began again. Sadly, I should have trusted my gut, since I knew they were trouble. Later, alone, and unsuccessful in love, I felt like I would never fit in. So on my 22nd birthday, I threw a party where everyone dressed as me, red, and that changed everything! I learned that being unique is a gift and that was the last time I felt sad about not being like everyone else. After all, I was tailor made to be just who I am. I celebrated what made me special and swiftly made $150 million dollars.
