I put off reading this for a really long time because I was nervous that it would be super sad and I would be in a really bad funk afterwards. I had heard so many readers talk about how emotional this story was, but I'm not finding myself having the same reaction. Maybe it was too hyped up to be sad? I just feel like I didn't fully connect with the characters. My 14 year old daughter just read it and really loved it. I showed her I was listening and she asked who my favorite character was and I had to think. I do really like Lydia and Mateo. She asked who my least favorite was and I said Amy. Idk though. I just looked back at the History Is All You Left Me review and I thought I rated it higher than 3 stars but it seems like I had the same issue there. I liked the writing and don't find any fault there, but I don't feel like I'm connecting or caring about these characters and that's a bummer.

This book was definitely different. I enjoyed the story, but the way that Rufus talked drove me insane.

Reading this was a struggle. It read as if the author thought of the idea, but didn't fully develop anything. The characters were very one-dimensional, with their style of dialogue changing throughout chapters with no reason. Don't bother!

Imagine a world where death calls you. Yup you get a phone call and are told you will die in the next 24 hours that’s it not details no way out of it.
Would you live it up or would you stay hidden away?
Rufus and Mateo get the call on the same night. Rufus is going to take the living it up path. Mateo wants nothing more then to stay hidden away from the world. That is until Rufus and Mateo connect on the Last Friend App. Now Mateo is fighting through fear to live his last day to the fullest and with the help of Rufus he will do just that. From saying good-byes, to finding adventure to even find love Rufus and Mateo are going to have no regrets when death finally come for them. The title says it all but I was still heartbroken when they met their ends.
If you haven’t read this book yet I highly recommend it. It’s a book that will break you, make you think and maybe even unnerve you but it’s worth it.

This is so beautifully heartbreaking. This is the kind of book that leaves you breathless and broken, but a broken that makes you feel human.

Scratch my earlier review.
I powered through to the end and I have no regrets.
The concept of getting a notification about your certain death is interesting especially viewing how people react knowing they have less that 24 hours. 24 hours to try and accomplish whatever they had been putting off, spend time with loved ones and make moments.
The book centered around two 17 year olds with some wise beyond their years incites. As the book suggests, they both die in the end. The book takes us through their last moments of making memories, peace and last connections.
I enjoyed that they had latin ancestry which was different and welcomed.

Loves: Rufus. Mateo. Friendship. Coming of age. Acceptance of who you are. Big city adventures. THE FREAKING BEAUTIFUL WRITING STYLE!
Likes: The Plutos. Lidia. And everything else.
Dislikes & hates: NOTHING. This book was perfect from start till finish. I almost cried a few times before the ending but I had to contain myself since I was reading it on public transport. I ugly cried during the final few chapters. I won't give the reasons why but [a: Adam Silvera|7577278|Adam Silvera|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1414725025p2/7577278.jpg] knows how to write.
