This was yet another extremely powerful and effective entry into the Horus Heresy by Graham McNeill.

Chock full of outstanding bits of cosmic horror.

Stories about Magnus and his thousand sons are always a really nice change of pace to the rest of the universe.
Filled more with philosophy than over the top battles they are a nice rest to what can some times be tyring fights after fights.

A great character piece following some key characters for the lore to come and showing how they got there or at least putting them on their path.

It really does feel like we are getting to the end game. Everyone's tying up loose threads and heading to Terra, and everything has been great on that way.

I really enjoyed the slightly weirder aspect of this novel, how much of it was just characters wandering through the warp and chatting to daemons and stuff. Less battles but interesting look at the characters and lore. I liked Ahriman, and enjoyed it starting to move down the path of him making bad choices for the right reasons. I also liked him using powers and the general more magic-y aspects. Not something I'd recommend to someone who isn't into that kind of thing though, didn't feel very similar to a lot of other 40k novels.

With Prospero sundered by the Wolves, the Thousand Sons are adjusting to life on the Planet of the Sorcerers. Magnus mourns the loss of so much knowledge from Prospero, but his sons fear for his fractured soul.

Thousand Sons fans are going to love this, as will anyone who likes their fiction on the grand scale – there’s a lot of continuity here, which means lots to enjoy if you’re fully up to date with the series, but it works beautifully as a story even without reading/remembering absolutely everything that’s happened or will happen.
