I absolutely love that we have a gay romance in a normally hetero series. The authors statement at the beginning of the book was nice too. Everyone deserves to find a good companion if they so choose.

Needed to be a bit longer. The ending was too abrupt for me. In fact, I turned the page expecting an epilogue, so that lost it a star :)

Ended up listening to Mavis & Turre's story again ... I love this series so much.

I love listening to Kenyon books. The action is awesome, and Holter Graham is wonderful to listen to.

Once again, I'm reminded how much I love Mari. For a shorter book in this series, it definitely packs a punch.

My only complaint is that Maris' book just wasn't long enough.

For a short story though, it packs a punch. So much is revealed regarding Maris & Darling's friendship. I was a bit confused by Ture & Zarya though. They're suppose to be really good friends, but they don't interact much at all. For as wounded and Maris and Ture are, it was nice to see their relationship evolve at a realistic pace.

Overall though, I loved their story. Hope to see more of them in future books!

I don't think this book was written well enough. The characters and storyline just weren't developed enough. It happened too quickly. It seemed like it didn't have as much attention as other characters and love stories and it was too predictable.

I haven't picked up a book by Sherrilyn Kenyon before so I decided to jump right in with a book I had been gifted. Turns out - don't start in the middle of this series. You need to understand the first six books to get what's going on in this one.

The writing is good but it's not really my style. It felt like there was a lot of nothing going on for most of the story and since I didn't know all the background to what happened before, I was very, very lost. I think Sherrilyn is a good writer, but I definitely needed to know all of the background to get anything about the story. Like the weird Phrixian race - I don't know what it is, what they look like, anything. The two men falling in love was fantastic, but I couldn't understand their differences since I didn't know why humans and Phrixians shouldn't be friends.

There were a lot of stereotypes and the homophobia was... not amazing. I can tell the writer doesn't normally write M/M romances and well... it didn't work well but I will take the attempt as a positive since it means this fictional world has M/M romances...

Overall, good story and I'm sure fans of this series will like it.

One out of five stars.

A most satisfying read if you are a fan of The League Series. Always enjoy revisiting this particular universe of Sherrilyn's and was very happy that she decided to give Maris his most deserved HEA.

Normally I love Kenyon's books so when I saw that she's tried her hand at a M/M romance I was super excited to dive in. Sadly, this one fell totally flat in sooo many ways.

First off, it's the shortest book in the entire series and it only even reaches the length it does because of the three chapters of another book at the end. Huge indication about how much she truly struggled to write two gay men.

Second, I don't think she's ever met a gay man in real life and has only encountered them in overly dramatized shows where the gay man's personality is super flamboyant and that's all the depth there is to them. BOTH characters are written super feminine which just rubbed me the wrong way. Just like straight men, gay men come in all types so to only see one, super stereotyped version in a book with two gay men in it just made me angry, frankly. Mari's personality is fun in other books, but once you learn his past it just doesn't match up or make sense how he acts.

Third, tell me you've never had a*** without telling me. Like, come on Kenyon, at least make the sex make sense. Some mention of prep would have made these scenes so much better instead of treating it just like straight sex. Or at least mention lube because it's cringe reading it as written!

Lastly, all the drama in this one seems so forced. I loved delving deeper into Mari's race and their intricacies, but having him be the main target for everything just doesn't make sense. It makes it seem like every part of this book was an after thought that was hastily squeezed in so to not disrupt later books.

I was hoping for so much more from this and was left let down by Kenyon for the first time. I'd recommend so many of her books without any hesitation, but this one is not at all one of them.
