well, well, well...

This was me throughout this book. I give this 5 I'm half a soul without you out of 5 stars.

I'm not usually a big fan of age gap romances, I try to ignore it as much as I can. But when reading Control me, I found the age thing didn't bother me at all. Coz Nikolai and Abbie's story was that good.

Many a times, I find it hard to read the second standalone (and so on) in a series, coz it takes me some time to get over the fact that the side characters in a book I loved are now main characters. That was the same case here.

It took me some time to grasp them as the main characters, and then when it did, my gawd did I get into it. Abbie has been through soo much, the poor girl and having to go through it all alone like she did. When she finally found the courage to tell Nikolai,
Spoiler(I cried when he cried btw)
he was there every step of the way with her.

We all need a man like Nikolai, I guess, who hates us, then loves us, then whisks us away to an Island where we can paint to our heart's content.

"I'll hold you so you won't shatter. I'll carry you so you can use all your strength to fight the demons.

I am dead, deceased. My soul is in the hands of Nikolai Vetrov and I'm never taking it back.

Nikolai Vetrov has been asked to train students at St. Monarch's till his uncle could find a suitable replacement. Everything's fine & dandy until a certain Bratva spitfire joins the academy. She can't get her eyes off of Nikolai so she makes sure Nikolai gets the message loud and clear - Abi goads him, seduces him, flirts with him until Nikolai can't hold back anymore. Outside St. Monarch's, their families are rivals but Nikolai isn't going to let that stop wherever they're going with this relationship.

You're getting an age-gap romance with this novel (18 years! Whooho), one heck of a heroine who isn't shy of making her desires known and a hunky alpha male. It made for a good read but it would've been a lot more engaging if we were given supporting characters who could add more to the scenes. Without that, the entirety of the novel seemed like a two-person world.

I think this book is better than the first one. And I manage to finish this less than 24-hours. But I do still very conflicted while reading it.

We were first introduced to Abbie and Nikolai in book one with all their signature banter and flirtation—the push and pull, the one-on-one training sessions. So, at first, I was a little frustrated that their story goes simultaneously with the previous book. But I appreciated that, even with the same timline, we got to see a fresh perspective.

Abbie truly shone in this book—I’m so proud of everything she’s been through and how far she’s come. And Nikolai? Absolutely perfect. Watching their relationship unfold was such a joy. The tension and angst between them practically leapt off the page. Seeing Nikolai stand by Abbie, gently helping her navigate her trauma, was so heartwarming. His fierce protectiveness, reserved only for her, and the way she slowly rediscovered herself… it was everything. And most of all, I loved how Abbie stayed strong, sassy, and powerful—and how Nikolai, fully aware of it, still treated her like absolute queen.

Why not 5 stars then? As much as I adored Abbie and Nikolai’s journey—especially the emotional depth and character growth—I couldn’t give it a full 5 stars. The inclusion of the daddy kink just didn’t vibe with me personally, and I found it pulled me out of the story. Also, I think I'm starting to get used to Michelle Heard's rushed plot when reaching to the conclusion part's writing style as well.

This book might not give us a sneak peek about what happen next, and I am eager to find out myself for that. So, obviously! I'm going to read Brutalize Me immediately after this! 🔥💥
