I'm gonna preface this review by saying that this review is solely my opinion and that this book was NOT for me. I had a really tough time deciding whether or not I should DNF this book but in the end, I decided to push through. I had really high expectations for Abbie and Nikolai based on the premise but unfortunately, they didn't deliver. Abigail's character felt really forced and most, if not all, of her actions made me cringe real hard. Her overuse of the word "daddy" nearly had me throwing up in my mouth a little. Look, don't get me wrong. I do love meself a bit of a daddy kink. But not this much. The fact that Abbie went through some life changing trauma midway through the story and she's traumatised, distrustful and feels disgusted by herself (understandably so based on what she went through). Nothing wrong with that part. But the fact that made it seem ridiculous was that not even 2 chapters later, she's back at it again with her daddy kink. Like hello??? Miss girl, are you alright? I'm legit concerned about her bouncing back so fast lmao. As for Nikolai...he didn't seem like a very special character to me. Nothing that really set him apart from any other MMCs that I've read about - typical behavior where he hates her first and then 5 chapters later is professing his undying love. Usually, I do love a bit of insta lust/insta love as opposed to the general opinion of people hating this particular trope. But even by Michelle Heard standards, I felt like the "falling in love" aspect in this book was wayyyyy too fast. It seemed unnatural and forced. Apart from that, the flow of dialogues and pacing of the story felt off for me. For me personally, Michelle's books range from decent/okay-ish to pretty enjoyable. This book would fall in the lower category of okay-ish for me. Despite giving this 2 stars, I wouldn't write off this author and look forward to reading more books by Michelle Heard!
- age gap (i.e. H is 39 and h is 21)
- dislike to love
- trainer/trainee romance
- mafia elements
- no condoms
- rape + kidnapping/PTSD & trauma (one of the MCs goes through it)
- mentions of death, violence, cancer, gore, etc
- H had been married previously (but the h is the only woman he has ever loved)
- no cheating/no sharing
- no OW/OM drama

Abbie was the mafia princess, who didn’t wanna be a mafia princess. Nikolai was the doing something he didn’t want to do to help his family. When the princess meets the darkness of what it’s actually, like the grumpy King of Blood Diamonds, steps in and saves her. OMG MICHELLE HEARD! I am in love!! The dynamics of this couple are grade A. The sizzle, the pain, the love is amazing. When I say I cried, I did. But I also clapped my hands when the Queen realized she had the King by her side she could do anything!!! Amazing! Thank you!!!

This book felt way better than the first even though a good 30% ish was a reread from the previous book just from Abbies perspective but I get why it was needed and I felt for her and what she went through. I wish there was a bit more character development and push back from Nikolai. Maybe thats just my preference like let the man stew a bit more rather than being like yeah idk why but shes mine now and i guess i love her and from his end it was fast. then again, these books are fast novellas basically so it was decent from what it is. I loved seeing Damien and Winter and that we got more of the OGs from the first series in this universe. it was very sweet and i adored seeing how great they are as parents. I also am a sucker for an age gap so that defs worked in my favor for sure and the Daddy mention was hilarious but also so fitting and weirdly hot. I will say tho i need a break bc there is a need for more substance in my mind. Also the butterflies at the wedding was such a nice touch and actually made it memorable bc thats something I would want at a wedding I will never be having.
