It's pretty fantastic. Definitely a product of the sixties, or Agatha's reactio to it. The twist brings out some interesting moments from earlier in the book. Good setting, great characters, great voice.

Classic unreliable narrator. I did begin to suspect the twist as the clue was in the inconsistencies, but I wasn’t fully convinced of my theory. The book is very slow to get going, but once it’s on its way it gains momentum very quickly - this technique did build the suspense as the reader knew that ‘something’ bad was going to happen but not exactly what. Very clever how the writing style also unravels in the final pages to show the protagonist’s downward mental spiral.

I open at the motherfucking close. Gagged, I tell you!

It was giving RebeccaShutter Island, Inception, Sixth Sense, idk, ALL the things. A plot twist unfolding before my very eyes. Quite excellent!!

I found this one to be super interesting in terms of social class commentary. Some really great themes and quotes in here that made me think.

Now, what I am NOT a fan of is the blatant racism here, I mean, the gentry are clearly despicable ones. I don't like that they kept on harping about the same misconceptions and stereotypes about a particular group of people. That just put a really bad taste in my mouth.
