This short story collection highlights different ways of being a teen geek, and includes stories from some big YA authors. The stories are uneven -- there are a few that I loved, and some that (despite only being from about 10 years or so ago) feel pretty dated. It's a fun book to pick up and page through now and again, but too much to read start to finish.

If you're in the mood for YA short stories, each with their own geeky twist, then this collection is for you. As with most short story collections, I found that were some stories I was really captivated by and others where I was okay with the fact that they were indeed short stories. A nice break from my usual novel choices, though!

It was a YA book, which I only realized after I started reading, but it was pretty good. Nothing earth shattering, but fun and true.

Few stories were good but most of them were kinda terrible. I had really hard time finishing this book. Even David Levithan and John Green wrote something beneath their levels and I didn't think it was possible.
I would give it two stars but the short comics were good.

A little forced at times, especially towards the start of the book where the geek references apear inserted with a crowbar. There are however some genuinely touching stories nestled amongst the clichés

Well, I guess I wasn't as much of a nerd as I thought I was because I felt no emotional connection to any of these stories. I trudged through this over 5 years and I can't tell you how glad I am to be done with it. Not all geeks are trekie band members who are in the play and watch rocky horror picture show.

A REALLY mixed bag of short stories about the Geekdom.
Some are great, well thought out, well rounded short stories. Others are really just stubs, and read like a writing prompt (Once a Jedi, I'm looking at you).

Standout hits: The Stars at the Finish Line (cuuute!) and Everyone But You (a winner)
Potentially Cassandra Clare's best work in I Never (I'm a long time hater, and I appreciated the fresh story), Quiz Bowl Antichrist I LOVED but I'm starting to think David Levithan can do no wrong.

Big misses: Secret Identity, I was just "whaaaatttt?" I can't even articulate how confused and messed up this made me feel. Dino girl started strong and lost me in a big way, but it has been ranted over TO DEATH by many others before me and I don't have a new perspective. It's Just a Jump to the Left felt predictable when it was trying to be left of centre, I just didn't connect.

Once You're a Jedi, You're a Jedi All the Way (Holly Black and Cecil Castellucci) ★★★
One of Us (Tracy Lynn) ★★★
Definitional Chaos (Scott Westerfeld) ★★
I Never (Cassandra Clare) ★★★
The King of Pelinesse (M.T. Anderson) ★★
The Wrath of Dawn (Cynthia and Greg Leitich Smith) ★★★
The Quiz Bowl Antichrist (David Levithan) ★★★★★
The Quiet Night (Garth Nix) ★★★★★
Everyone But You (Lisa Yee) ★★★★★
Secret Identity (Kelly Link) ★
Freak the Geek (John Green) ★★★★
The Truth About Dino Girl (Barry Lyga) ★
This is My Audition Monologue (Sara Zarr) ★★★
The Stars at the Finish Line (Wendy Mass) ★★★★★
It's Just a Jump to the Left (Libba Bray) ★★

Overall not the best anthology in the world, but worth picking up for a couple of gems in the middle

Geektastic is a very different book. I'm not going to write my own plot summary just because there are tons of different stories in Geektastic and it would take forever. I will say that they were all really cute and geeky!

Okay I will admit that I am not that geeky. I have never been a fan of Star Wars or Star Trek and both of those came into play in some of the stories in the book. I was a little confused because of this. A couple stories were all about Star Trek or Star Wars and I didn't really know what they were talking about. That is my only complaint but I guess maybe I should just try watching Star Wars and Star Trek now. =]

I have to tell you that One Of Us by Tracy Lynn and I Never by Cassandra Clare were my two favorites of the whole book, especially I Never. They were both really cute and nothing about them confused me. A ton of the others were great too but those were the best for me. They just had me hooked and I have never read anything by either of the authors. I know, sad. I am ashamed of myself. I will have to fix that soon.

Overall, Geektastic was just a fun book that brings out the nerd in everyone. There really is a story in it for everyone. Plus, the comics were really good too. If you haven't read it yet, definitely check it out!

This book reinforced why I do not typically read short stories - they are simply not as well developed as full length books and I feel like I cannot connect to the characters. I was looking forward to connecting to this book more than usual, but I found that I simply did not relate to many (if any) of the characters. There were some stories that were amusing, some that were sad (the story of the obsessed Dino Girl getting her revenge just made me feel bad for all involved, for example, instead of feeling that sweet justice was served), and some I had to skip over after reading a few pages. (Typical anthology reading for me.) I have to admit that I had to slog through this one.

As a young adult book, all of the stories took place in high school. Although I would classify myself as I geek, I obviously wasn't a tortured geek because my experiences did not mirror the characters in these stories. I'm glad that I read the book, but when all is said and done my feelings are just "meh" about this book.
