I hadn't read any Jules Verne before, and wow, this was a fun adventure book. Lots of action, and a lot of pretty realistic science in there, I approve.

Het was een ervaring. Naar mijn idee had t ook wat korter gemogen + iets minder deus ex machina

This was just ok. Maybe I’m having Vern fatigue but I felt that this one wasn’t as good as the others. There wasn’t really anything wrong with it. It was a good story, well written. I just didn’t really enjoy it as much as the others I have read. I’m not sure what I was expecting really. More action I think. It was all a little hum drum. I did like the conclusion to Captain Nemo’s story. I guess it feel like it was a really long and round about way of giving Nemo a proper send off.

I tried reading this, and I really wanted to like it, but after I got about half-way through, I decided to just give up, because I wasn't enjoying it. There was too little plot and too much technical stuff -- to a certain degree, the technical stuff was interesting (how they did this, what they substituted for that, etc.), but not at the expense of moving the plot forward.

And while I appreciate that this was written in a time period where shooting and killing animals just for the fun of it was perfectly acceptable, it bothered the conservationist in me how cavalier the men all were about it.

I eventually just decided that life's too short to slog through a book I wasn't enjoying, and there are too many other books out there I could actually take pleasure in reading.

As someone with aphantasia, a book that is 70% descriptions doesn't seem like a good read, but I still enjoy a good "Let's be resourceful" story with a splash of "everything we just so happen to need is here!" Plus I LOVE stories where everyone just...gets along!

I also appreciated the ideas about redemption and absolution of sins...very interesting. Probably will never read again but I wish there was a modern movie from this!

It took me a while to get into this one. I persevered because I knew that Captain Nemo would eventually show up, and I needed to know the rest of his story! So I read some other things to take breaks while soldiering on through the beginning chapters. Eventually, though, I could hardly put it down.
