0 fucking stars this was horrible. Don’t waste your time. All of that and for what? I haven’t hated characters that much in a minute. Little lamb??? The breakup?? THEM GETTING BACK TOGETHER?????? That angered me to my very core. I wanted them to stay apart sooooo badly.
So disappointed. smh

A decent erotica, but what I enjoyed most was the reflection on religion. The main character's agony over his job as a priest and his love of a woman is not unique to literature, but it felt elevated. Like reading an old novel. The sex was "spicy" but I think parts were boring.
The third act breakup and eventual getting back together kept this book from being truly good. I was hoping he'd realize she was the one that got away and gave him the impetus to see what kind of life he actually wanted to live. But they get back together fast and it's just...meh.

A good book for straightforward smut. The plot was very clear. We all knew why we were there.

I absolutely loved how hot and sexy this book is, and all the taboo elements throughout. I also love how despite how taboo it is, there's some really sweet and tender moments as well. I loved reading about Tyler's struggle between his faith and his feelings for Poppy and seeing him unable to stop himself from falling for her.

And I love how Tyler always gets Poppy's explicit consent before he does anything with her and that he asks several times during whatever they're doing how she's feeling and if she wants to continue, even after the initial consent is given. I love when a book includes consent being given.

I can't recommend this book enough.

I didn't enjoy the steamy scenes there was consistently something jarring or completely unbelievable about them. And I didn't believe the characters falling in love. This was really annoying though because it, in principle, was a really good romance story. The characters do feel like individuals and not like half baked stereotypes like a lot of romances. And they have a really good reason they can't be together.
There's so much of it that's so good but then there's stuff like Poppy trying to get Tyler to stop asking her for consent. I can see the point the author is trying to drive at with him being overly cautious and with the sub/dom stuff they're doing that not really working. So, up to this point I think it's more of a personal preference thing and she does essentially give him consent for this. BUT THEN he has a point where he thinks "I should really ask for consent for this new thing I'm going to try but I won't because I don't think I can stop". And she's fine with it so it's just a passing thought but it's also supposed to be a change in his character because he wasn't able to do that before. Anyway, I would have felt much better about it if they had discussed safe words or something like that. I feel like some people would like this sort interaction in a fictional story and I guess there were indicators that this might happen so maybe this is just on me. But it felt like it wasn't handled with the same care that the author had for the rest of this complicated love story so I'm a little disappointed.

I struggled slightly with the religious side of this book, I am an atheist and don't believe in God or a higher power so reading about how strong and rooted these characters beliefs were was admittedly slightly difficult for me. However, it was interesting to allow myself to learn more about the Christian mindset, if it is truly how it is represented in this book, and the reasoning behind their faith. I found the couple frustrating at times but overall I did enjoy the book and its message.

ok wow i was not expecting to have actual Thoughts about this book

ngl, i fully just came for the smut, but i stayed for the reflections on religion. i am very much an atheist and have always found it hard to understand religion, so that aspect of this book was actually so fascinating to me?? like don’t get me wrong, the smut was great but i ended up being far more invested in tyler’s character development and how he dealt with the being a priest vs being with poppy conflict

i feel like we didn’t actually get to know poppy that well which is probably why i didn’t really really care that much about her. i wouldn’t have cared if they didn’t end up together tbh. was still satisfied with how it ended tho!
