Clearly the spiritual heir of Granny Weatherwax, the Nameless Witch saves the world with radical skepticism. Great fun!

This book was highly entertaining. It is a quick and easy read filled with many moments and quotes of extreme hilarity. I mean, a demon duck? Yeah, I said demon duck.

I loved A Company of Ogres and Too Many Curses. A Nameless Witch comes in 3rd or 4th. Lots of great names, good laughs and entertaining characters (a demon duck, a Mr. Potato Head style-ogre, some funny bridge trolls, a black White Knight, and the list goes on). However, this book was more a love story than a fantasy story and a little sappy. I also had some issues with Martinez's use of magic. It can be a really difficult concept to master and it definitely follows rules. Martinez's magic was very nebulous - "she used magic to heal his wounds". Huh. But what exactly did she do?

All in all, I think I like Martinez's magic-free fantasy characters better.

I enjoyed this fun and light fantasy read. I found the main character interesting because of her curse and how she manages despite it. The cast of surrounding characters were humorous and added to the richness of the tale. Despite being a fairly simple quest tale it managed to balance its subtle humour with heart. Plus, how can you not like a book with a demonic duck and a zombie siren?

Updated reviews:
Upgraded from 4 to 5 stars. This is fantastic and love the darkly humourous tone.
I think this time around i would call our nameless Witch Rowen. Star crossed lovers kills me though.

I really enjoyed this whimsical adventure that was reminiscent of The Princess Bride. I adored the quirky characters and enjoyed the plot. My only complaint was that it felt a little rushed; so much packed in for such a short story. It did feel a touch repetitive when mentioning her lust/cannibalism and her need to always hide her beauty.
As for the nameless witch, I was feeling either Serena or Willow...

But in the end, I still loved the journey.

This book has all the ingredients to be a book I will love. It's wildly imaginative You got a demon duck, a ogre who mixes and matches parts like Mr. Potato Man, a broom with O.C.D., and a white knight. Did I say the book has a demon duck named Newt? He's bent on bloodshed and destruction and his favorite food is duck.

The book stars the nameless witch. She picks up the aforementioned characters along the way to do her vengeance quest.

But so many times while reading the book (maybe like the impatient Demon Duck), I wondered how much longer we had to go and that's why I have to give the book only three stars.
