Well, I didn't see that coming

I would say that this is a pretty average YA mystery novel. I didn’t dislike it, but it also didn’t blow me away.

The twist at the end was actually ridiculous, it was just like the author was trying their best to make the twist as shocking as possible. I feel that the story could have been more riveting as a mystery if that twist had not actually happened and Mildred was actually alive because of the complex family dynamic. The whole “mysterious reason” for the kids being disowned kind of fell flat when you realize that it’s just an imposter all along. It was pretty underwhelming for the whole mystery aspect.

Also, I just found out that this was a standalone. For some reason I thought it was going to be a series but honestly I like that it was a standalone because I don’t know how much the story could be continued.

What did I think? Firstly, that was full of unexpected twists and turns, I'm saying it so much but it's true. I loved how the author kept dropping small hints though, so by Chapter 20-ish the reader could pretty much connect the dots...

Spoiler Wow. So Mildred never disinherited her kids! I must say Theresa's plan is pretty original, and her team worked pretty well to cover up their traces... I did suspect Donald from the beginning, and obvi Baxter knew something so when he died it was clearly foul play... Theresa, however, I only suspected much later on... What happened to Max was unacceptable - true he was a downright jerk, but murder? that still doesn't excuse Theresa though, even though Anders was ALSO a downright jerk. so was Adam. Okay so a lot of them were jerks. I felt really sorry for Allison coz of what happened with the pregnancy and she couldn't tell anyone... also Archer and how he had done nothing wrong... That family was srsly messed up... I luv the Jonah N and JT thing tho - worked well for JN, and honestly JN and Milly are so cute together:) Out of the three cousins (well two) I preferred Audrey the most, ig coz she was the most relatable... but I loved Milly's wittiness... Also, I loved how it was Audrey who ultimately figured out what was going on first and was the one in the midst of the action and not Milly (don't get me wrong, I loved Milly but felt she was just a bit too much sometimes...) Anyway I loved how it ended - honestly, Paula's letter was hilarious "from one phoney to another"

Pre-ordered the EPub Version (currently not listed on GR), arrived today and started immediatley.

Wow, there where so many twists and none of them I saw coming.
Believable 3 MC's, story told in alternating chapters from their pov and also going into the past telling from the parents pov.
Gripping, fast read, highly recommended - as are the other books of her I read.

This book wasn't able to grab my interest. The characters weren't appealling and were actually insufferable.
