This was pretty wacky but I liked it. Not as cool as Age of Apocalypse, there's some fun moments in here. Ed Mcguinness' art is the highlight and helps make some of the slower moments more dynamic. I think this could have been three issues shorter and a bit funnier, but the good stuff shines bright here. I even found the final moments between Harley and the Joker touching.

I only picked this off the shelf because Joker was on it, and I wanted to see what he had to do with thwarting superman. I was so pleasantly surprised, because this is funny and brilliant and absurd and all around fun. I laughed out loud a couple of times, which is rare for me. What a mind Jeph Loeb has to create new interesting characters, as well as twist the ones we know into an alternate, crazy, fantastic world. I was wondering where Batman would fit in - and his role was perfectly thought out and completely appropriate. Loved it. Great change of pace from the gritty justice league of the last decade.

This was so much worse than it had any reason to be. It combined all the annoying, unfunny parts of a Mr. Mxyzptlk with a low-end Saturday morning cartoon. The main crux of the plot made no sense and the resolution less so. In a world where alternate universe stories are popular and creative, this all-star creative team grabbed some low-hanging fruit and called it a day. The only saving grace was there was some spectacular artwork scattered among the pointlessness. Overall, flip through, don't read, and definitely don't buy.

via NYPL - Goofy fun, a little over-long. Reminds me why I quit this era of Superman before this arc - got tired of the creators using Lois betrayal as the ultimate Superman psyche-breaker and Lois's support as his ultimate willpower (she waffles back and forth in this one repeatedly depending on how they want to push Superman). Dude can do things on his own, and frankly, they never give Lois any real agency of her own. It's all about manipulating him by shoving her into whatever shaped hole they need.

So, I’m still not sure what exactly I read or what happened here.
The Joker creates a world of his own and tortures the entire JL within it. The story revolves around Clark - which is a first for me. A Joker story where Clark’s the protagonist, not Batsy. Superman is the only person aware of what the world used to be and I’m not entirely sure why that is? It may have been explained amidst the 5,000 puns and double entendres. I didn’t know whether to roll my eyes or be impressed. It read like someone just recorded their thoughts after drinking 6 Red Bull’s.
Anyway, what actually worked for me was the Clark and Bruce of it all. I don’t think I’ve ever read a story where Bruce suffered quite like this. He was in really bad shape living out a version of Prometheus’ story. It was actually a bit hard to read. In the end, Clark just can’t watch him suffer anymore.
So, that really worked for me. It was really intriguing.
Unfortunately, the rest of this comic was completely batshit insane.

I really liked this story-line. The whole idea of Superman vs Joker is something that we don't see enough of and the telling is even better when Supes is missing some firepower and the Joker has all the advantages. There were some really surprising and creepy moments throughout that made me shudder and be glad that the Joker wasn't in charge usually. The one thing that bothered me was the fact that the art was too cartoony for the storyline. As I said before, there were some dark and creepy parts to this tale, and the art just made it seem to light and airy.

I would love to see Grant Morrison, Mark Waid or Scott Snyder reimagine this story and give it the execution it deserves. The concept of Emperor Joker seemed truly exciting; The Joker tricks Mr. Mxyzptlk into revealing his imp name and as a consequence steals 99% of his reality-altering powers. How great is this idea ?
Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing exciting about this book. The portrayal of the Joker was messy and uninteresting, which is very shameful given the incredible potential that the idea had. Moreover, this incarnation of Superman is probably the worst I have ever come across - Very passive and borderline obnoxious. The cartoonish artwork and the lame dialogues, jokes and "puns" also justify the one-star rating.

Some really great Bizarro stuff here. The cosmic Joker was . . . meh. Overall, I enjoyed it. 3.5 stars.
