I struggled with this book, and I won't try to bring this book or author down because though I found it hard there were moments where I enjoyed or found some moments quite funny and engaging. I liked and empathised a bit with Paris, but there were parts of the story that made me uncomfortable and nearly disengage with the story. It's a good book and is charming and sweet but I think one particular part needs more in depth thought about the consequences of mental health and crime I found some of the main characters view points around that was quite hurtful.
Cute easy read. First book I have read by this author and I would read more.

This was a TikTok shop purchase through HarperCollins. I’d keep an eye on them if you are looking for book deals. They have some great sales!
“Laurel, Cassie, and Paris struggling with their personal lives, form a book club focused on happy endings. As they delve into their favourite stories, the women find inspiration to take risks and find happiness in their own lives.”
I had never read anything by Susan Mallery before, but when shopping for some summer reads, this was, of course, a no-brainer.
This book is such a lovely, gentle read. Even though the 3 main characters are dealing with some stressful and upsetting situations, it is a story of the strength of women and in women. I enjoyed the character dynamics and how their friendship worked. I loved the book club element and how they got together to just ‘put the world to rights’. As my grandmother would have said.
I also found that the different stages that each woman was in, in their life, blended well. I feel a lot of books, TV shows and movies show mums with their mum friends and single friends with other single friends. When In fact, friendship groups are more mixed than that. And this was a great example.
A new author to delve more into. 4 Stars.
What I Did Like:
+Characters who break the cliche. I adore characters who aren’t what you expect and this book has that. I appreciated their struggles and flaws, it made them unique!
+The romances are cute. I like the inclusion of kids for a realistic twist on what dating at other times in your life looks like.
+The book club angle was cute although you’d never catch me in a genre specific book club. I need variety! But the small discussions about books was a cute way to let you know who the characters were by who they identified with.
Who Should Read This One:
-Romance fans who want women who already have kids, lives, and baggage as the main character.
My Rating: 3 Stars
3.5 stars - this is more “women’s fiction” than romance - although three women are hyper fixated on men in various ways. I laughed out loud a few times, which is rare for me while reading. It was more relatable with the older (they never said their ages that I recall but two of them are divorced and one has a 12 year old) women in more realistic problems. The younger transplant’s storyline wasn’t very realistic or mature.
Overall kinda deep topics for a beach read but was set in the summer. The book club doesn’t really feature in the book except as a loose tie.
