I might be in the minority, but I loved this book more than the first in the duology! The pace felt faster and the stakes felt higher, which kept me tightly roped in. The suspense built steadily until the end in a very satisfying way. The ending was superb: complex, not predictable, a wonderful mix of positive and negative emotions, tying up all loose ends and then some (I truly felt well-fed as a reader with the last 3 chapters that were kind of like epilogue part 1, 2, and 3). I also loved learning more about the world, gods' history, and magic system, all which I yearned for in book one. This is a 5-star read for me easily, which I was pleasantly surprised by as I thought it would take awhile to love a book again after coming off my last big series (ToG).

I wish we had a bit for romance but then that wasn’t entirely what this book was about. I kept saying one more chapter ok one more and another ok one more hour lol ugh.

I gave this a lower rate than the first just because I felt like I was missing more with this. Some scenes felt rushed while others felt drawn out and so I just can't give it the same rating. However, I think it did wrap up the plot well and that the ending is mostly satisfying. I just personally needed a bit more intensity to keep me enthralled. Would still recommend the duology, though.

I thought this was a really good end to the duology. I loved listening to this world and how Iris and Kit traverse the situations they're in and what they will do to help each other. I think it really shows how much the two love each other and their intelligence too.

Without giving too much away I thought it was really interesting for the book to change between the war front and the city Oath settings. I think it really highlights how people are willing to ignore war until it is right on their front steps. I also did not think I would feel emotions towards a type writer but I did and those last few chapters also had my heart in pieces. Both are due to how was well everything was written and as such, my heart hurts now for everyone. I did like that it shows war has consequences, as I think a lot of people have the mentality that "it won't happen to me".

I really enjoyed this series and loved all the characters that were introduced over the two books.
