Interesting first volume but there was too much fighting, violence and that put me off a bit. Military SF isn't my favorite sub genre. I didn't like the artwork even though lot of people seem to love it. Lot of times it was difficult to read as many panels had tiny lettering. The ending was good. Overall the premise sounds promising to me so will probably try the second volume.
This is about a young boy robot which is left alone on a moon with its dog-robot after everyone died in that mining site. It is the last robot left which might help folks unlock the secret to Harvester robots which have been attacking and killing people. So this boy robot is in trouble as everyone is after him. Sounded a bit like Sweet Tooth which also was not a favorite because of similar violent torture and struggle for survival themes. Not a big fan of such stories.

Good solid beginning to an interesting series. Gives off very strong "alternate universe Mass Effect story" vibes, which I'm here for. Going to give the next volume a shot.
Graphic: Body horror, Child death, Death, Gun violence, Hate crime, Torture, Violence, Xenophobia, Kidnapping, Medical trauma, Death of parent
Phenomenal! "Your new sci-fi obsession is here." -Entertainment Weekly. That's what it says right on the cover and the interior does not disappoint. I love the storytelling and the collaboration between the written story and the visual.
This was my first graphic novel ever! I really enjoyed dipping into this new-to-me genre and I can’t wait to check out other books within that category.
But first things first: The art in Descender is stunning! I loved the delicate water colours which are used to tell the story.
As for the story itself: ….Meh! If you are really into Star Wars you should love this. Descender could easily be set in that universe. It is your typical space opera. Although it’s hard to say where exactly the story is going after just the first volume (that’s right, Descender is part of a series) I am tentatively going to state that the whole plot isn’t very original. In any case, it wasn’t enough to make me want to pick up the next volume immediately.
Overall, reading Descender and looking at the graphics was a very enjoyable experience but I’m not sure yet if I’ll continue on in the series.
On a side note: Driller the killer is cool.

The art alone is worth 5 stars. Add to the a beautiful world that mixes fantasy and science fiction, and you get this masterpiece. What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to love and be loved? Who deserves love? Who deserves to make the rules we all abide by? This drums up so many intricately woven philosophical thoughts into a beautiful story about a robot trying to find his brother. Of course nothing is easy though. Especially when you're an outcast being hunted for parts.
Okay, I'm in! Really loved the art and got a mega crush on Telsa from the beginning. This has plenty of potential.
Not bad for something I randomly picked up in Dublin three years ago because it looked interesting.
Would have given it an extra star, but they did that thing where the 'villain race' is all like pig features and is meant to provoke disgust, and I'm annoyed with that trope. I don't believe any race is inherently evil and I like my scifi to reflect that kind of complexity.

First off, the artwork in this is gorgeous. The delicate pencils and masterful water colors bring the subtle emotional tones on each character to life in a way that harsh computer colors would ruin. It's almost dream like, but not so much that you can't suspend your disbelief long enough to imagine it all to be real. The story that begins in this volume, that of little robot Tim-21 and his mysterious connection the the ominous Harvesters that decimated so many worlds 10 years ago, is well written and intriguing. Having just finished it I'm off to get the second volume right away. Beautiful.
