These six issues lay out some very interesting backstory with the promise of intrigue and subterfuge, which are things I am a big fan of, in the present. But the intrigue is less about strategy and more about brute force, which gets boring pretty quickly. I'm really not clear what is up with all the people trying to find my Robot Boy, and I'm not sure the book is either, what with all the trips into Backstory Land that are much more interesting than the main story.

Immediately an emotionally compelling story and Dustin Nguyen’s art is unbelievably beautiful.
This first volume of Descender is my personal favoruite brand of science fiction - the politically motivated space opera. Jeff Lemire has such a unique way of telling stories that are equally exciting and moving. He has a skilled way of connecting the reader to his characters enough to create an emotional charge, and then whisking the reader away into the heat of the action moments later.
Dustin Nguyen's artwork is absolutely breath taking. His style is soft and magical which contrasts the content of this series dramatically in order to add a more emotional feel to the text. The combat senes are impactful but maintain a sense of humility through his use of watercolour, perhaps due to the very physical nature of the medium. I am a sucker for good art in a graphic novel and Nguyen has truly won me over with this series.
I can't wait to see what the rest of Descender has in store.

Descender is about Tim-21, a robot who get left alone on a planet with many people who want to find him. We follow Tim-21 as he relives his previous memories and tries to piece together his previous lives.
I enjoyed the plot overall of Descender however especially towards the end as I do want to know what happens at next. I found however the plot at the beginning was quite slow and confusing. This could be because this was when the world building was happening and this did not leave me feeling very engaged in story. This being said I really enjoyed the pieces from his past as they added to the story and did improve it for me. Also towards the end, the plot really did increase and I really enjoyed it. Overall, the plot was engaging to an extent however I did find the beginning confusing and slow at times.
The characters in the novel were really enjoyed especially Tim-21 as I really liked him as a character and it was nice to exploring his character over the issues and volume.
My main problem with this graphic novel was with the artwork because even though I think the artwork is very unique and different, I did not really like it that much. I was interested in the artwork from that of the cover however they look a little different. I guess I found the artwork looked quite unfinished and at times did put me off the graphic novel as I was not enjoying the graphic novel I was reading.
Overall, I did like Descender as a graphic novel however I did find that the artwork let it down.

6 issue collection of a new sci-fi series about robots and a boy android.
Fantastic. So beautiful. There's enough action, and a very sympathetic protagonist with a mysterious/haunting/sad backstory. While I generally gloss over artwork, I couldn't pull my eyes from the pages. I can't wait for more instalments.
Cool art but sometimes feels unfinished. Intriguing story but just setting up, how well it delivers TBD.
4.5/5
Absolutely loved the watercolour art design in this

Restarting this series; I have volumes 1 -4. A good sci-fi graphic novel, with robots and aliens. The artwork is gorgeous. There's grit, but it's also wholesome. Can't wait to see what will happen.
Definitely worth a read, if only for the art, although the story is interesting so far.
