After reading Jessica Jones: Purple Daughter, I wanted to get into the first story of the series. I really liked the main premise and somehow Kelly Thompson makes the magical elements work in Jessica's dark and gritty world.
I absolutely love the art - the characters, the colours - it's just stunning to behold. I think some of it is unnecessary raunchy. Like, the club that Jessica visits didn't have to have a comic book-proportioned lady in a risque outfit, that would have been an ideal opportunity to put a regular, normal-looking person there to show that the world doesn't consist of only one kind of woman.
Also, some of the decisions made for Jessica were a bit weird (putting her in a costume for the third act just seemed a gimmicky attempt to dress a gritty detective in an impractical outfit).
The final story, which feeds into Purple Daughter, had a different art style and while it was a lot of fun, I couldn't understand why Jessica spent so much of it in her underwear. Like... that's an editorial decision that makes no sense. Luke could have been the one in underwear, why not?
Aside from the general comic book ridiculousness of this series, I absolutely loved it. There are occasional panels that feed into the subtext of Jessica (and the real world) being controlled by bad men, and it really grounds the story even more. It's genuinely a character study wrapped up in plot. Love Jessica's voice and her interactions with everyone around her. She's a great character who deserves a lot more love!

"I used to think it was a bad idea to enjoy a moment like this. Like I didn't deserve it. And later, I knew I deserved it, but I was still crippled by the idea that recognizing things being good--me being happy--was a sure way to jinx it all, make it disappear."Well, Jessica's not wrong in that department. This is the first time that Jessica Jones is written by a female writer and it's really empowering! The storyline here is set when Jessica now has a family life with Luke. (I initially thought that this was a reboot hehehe my bad for not reading the blurb all the time) Everything's fine and peachy until a previous client turned out to be dead in her office, and of course, she's framed for the death.
This sounds like your standard intro for Jessica Jones but I'm warning you, it gets exciting by the time she was shot dead and turned out to be not-dead at all. HAHAHA. Graphics wise, the art was amazingly drawn. It has this modern clean art style and it really fits the theme of the comic. There are also numerous cameos from big shot superheroes so it's a major plus for me. I'm hoping to get more satisfying answers for the next issues!

Wait, they’re making a digital series of Jessica Jones?!?! Yes please! I don’t know how I didn’t know about it sooner, but thank goodness I spotted it during some casual browsing. If you haven’t heard about this series you should hop online (comixology and amazon have, but I’m sure other retail sites do as well) and check it out.
This issue starts with a surprise costume, which I’m very much counting on them explaining. Actually, I sort of need the entire situation here explained. I’m sure they’ll get to it. Anyway, once they get moving with the main plot they really don’t waste any time, and I really do mean that.
This series was intense; I don’t want to spoil the two biggest moments of the issue…but yikes. I don’t know how they’re going to follow that up.
