This was a fun, very quick read (despite is number of pages). The pace was very fast and packed a lot into the story, but in the end, I feel like I just watched a single episode of a teen sitcom, not a full-fledged novel. I liked the characters, but the only one we really got to know was Charlie, and Nate's character revolved around his friendship with Charlie (which was sweet and genuine, don't get me wrong). I liked Charlie's interactions with Nate and with Joanna (who I love, despite her small part). Overall, the whole teen competition and robotics building was fun, but rushed. What the book was really about, to me, was Charlie and his parents. I wish we could have seen more of the conversation following Thanksgiving and see more of the reparations to the family, rather than the fighting. Still, I love Charlie and I kind of want to lay under his bed with him and talk to him and just make him happy. Kid deserves to be happy.

Also, from page one I knew Faith Erin Hicks was the perfect artist for not only this book, but also Rainbow Rowell's upcoming graphic novel.

I'm really disappointed this didn't have some kind of cheerleader illuminati. It put the thought in my head and then didn't deliver.

Everything about this was incredibly straightforward and not particularly deep.

The lack of jokes felt kind of odd give how much it looks like Scott Pilgrim.

I feel like this wasn't bad, but it wasn't really good either.

I felt the story line with the jock (Yes, completely forgot his name in a short amount of time) with his parents are rushed (And the amount of disrespect- I was waiting for a slap or something. If I ever hung up on my parents...)
I liked Nate, he wasn't really annoying. Also I'm a sucker for two oppsitite types of people getting together. The main storyline I wasn't really impressed with, nothing different.

Reading 2021
Book 78: Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong

Woo Hoo a third graphic novel review in a row. This one was a YA selection.

From Amazon: “Charlie is the laid-back captain of the basketball team. Nate is the neurotic, scheming president of the robotics club. Their unlikely friendship nearly bites the dust when Nate declares war on the cheerleaders and the cheerleaders retaliate by making Charlie their figurehead in the ugliest class election campaign the school has ever seen. At stake? Student group funding that will either cover a robotics competition or new cheerleading uniforms--but not both.”

This book was just fun! The hijinks the boys get themselves into made for a great page turner. Now things were not all fun as Charlie was dealing with his parents’ divorce, mom moving cross county, and his father’s constant business trips. Nate was there to make Charlie’s life even more difficult with all his crazy schemes. My rating 4 ⭐

A fun, perfectly paced little story of high school rivalries, robots, and industrial-strength weedkiller. Faith Erin Hicks just gets better and better—the art is so emotive and partners beautifully with the text (with a great balance of textual and visual jokes).

I felt that the ending didn't wrap up the story as cleverly and effortlessly as I'd have liked, but all in all I loved the heck out of it.

This was so much fun. Highly recommended if you're looking for a light read that's short and sweet to brighten up your day.

Loved the new twist on jocks and cheerleaders vs. nerds with the robots thrown in! Also, the friendship between the two main characters who happen to be neighbors but come from two different social groups was awesomely realistic.
