Mind-blowingly good! Absolutely looove this book! I can honestly say it is one of my favourite reads of the year. I love following Madison's life, and that is one my favourite things about this book and the series in general; these books are so personal and honest. Usually series have a book or two that are very personal history related, and then the rest have small bits and pieces here and there, but the Madison Harper series is all about Madison and Nate, as well as their pasts, and with a reason.
In this book the one thing that is not allowed to happen, happens. Nate skedaddles. That is the worst thing he can do to himself, Madison, Owen, and Brody. Never underestimate a dog!
I simply could not let go of this book, not even for a second, so there I was, reading it from cover to cover. Pure love!

Another brilliant story in the Detective Madison Harper series.
Even though I'm getting better at catching clues to figure some things out before they're revealed, there are still twists that really surprise me, and following Madison's investigations is always enthralling.
As usual, I was also happy to catch up with what's going on in her personal life (and Nate's, although he was back to having really dark thoughts after the events of the previous book) and to see all the familiar characters (including the pets) again.
The parts written in the point of view of an abducted girl were really good too - full of horrible things (thankfully more alluded to than described directly), of course, but very well done.
Warning for people who haven't read the whole series yet: some references to past events inevitably spoil parts of previous books (not entire plots, though, and I think you'd still enjoy reading the other books later if you decide to read this one first).
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

OH MY DAYS OH MY DAYS OH MY DAYS
I mean seriously!! This book was dark, sinister, shocking and totally totally heartbreaking!!! I spent alternate chapters crying, and my heart just broke. This must have been one heck of a book to try and write. I don't even know if I can write anything coherent as I am just sitting here stunned at what I have just read. I bought the audiobook because I just love the narrator, and god it broke me.
You have the Gina storyline, Nate's sideline - where I was just crying, Steve's storyline - man I broke, Madison's trying to solve a case. The ending was explosive, and I need Book 9. I know there will be so much fallout on its way. The big reveal SHOCKED ME SO MUCH! I had to skip back in the audiobook and then read it on the Kindle, as I couldn't believe what I was hearing and then reading!!!!!! I couldn't believe how much the rug had been pulled away from me. I was gasping! I mean there is so much more that happens - which definitely caused tears, it was just senseless. Not sure a book will be able to top this one for a while.
I have to say, this one will stick with me for a while, and I have to say it's possibly the best one in the series. Wendy has written such a hard-hitting book, that blows your mind, and leaves you shocked at the end. I still can't believe it!!

The main plot of this book about missing persons was disturbing to me, and not one of my favorites of this series. However, I've been following this series from the beginning, so I'm glad I read it because there are very important developments for Madison, her son Owen, and for Nate. You don't necessarily have to read all of the prior books to enjoy this one, but reading book 7, the one right before this one, will better explain Nate's actions in this one. To know more about Madison and Nate's history, reading at least the first book would be helpful. Nate didn’t play a big role in this book and he was missed, but I loved the ending and I can’t wait for book 9!!

Another one of the great series I love to read. The story is once again great but I’ll admit to feeling a little sad since Nate played such a small role in this one. I understand why he was absent for much of the book, but that doesn’t make me sad for his absence. But even with Madison’s son Owen being away at school, I’ll forgive the author for finding a way to bring him into the plot.
I love the unique premise of this series. Both Madison and Nate were wrongfully imprisoned, exonerated and working to set their life back on the right track with all the extra backage that brings. Madison being a detective and Nate a private eye. And I shouldn’t forget my favorite character, Brody, Nate’s dog. Who also mourns Nate not being around in this one. I just love when an animal serves a purpose in a book.
Madison has her work cut out for her. A body missing its head and hands is hard to identify and a women claiming her child went missing. All while she is wondering where Nate is and how is his mental status.
The story, while dark, was gripping and kept me glued to the book. The mix of both Madison’s personal life with her work life is always well balanced. And that ending. WOW. I’m always afraid of spoiling something with too many details, but trust me when I say the multiple POVs, cases and Madison’s focus had me reading this as quickly as I could.
Is it too soon to wonder what will happen next?
