Sad, heart-breaking little book! Don't want to spoil everything, but it starts out with a ten-year-old orphan having to run his grandfather's potato farm because the old man has lost the will to live and is laying semi-comatose on his bed. After a few successes, it ends...well, let's just say it's not an unqualified all-around win for everyone. Supposedly based on a Rocky Mountain legend, I'd be interested in finding out just how much is true...

The third grade class at Washington Elementary School read Stone Fox this year. Many of the students decided to do their book report project on it. I have never even heard of Stone Fox. It was published in 1980. Mrs. Stokes warned me and said be careful it's sad. This is one of those books where something happens and you are so shocked your only option is to say WHAT JUST HAPPENED! Then your eyes start leaking involuntary before you have time to process. I still have many questions about the story. Tell me, have any of you read Stone Fox?
