An interesting novella but I feel like what makes it interesting is also what makes it difficult for me to get into. It switches between first, second, and third person a lot which I thought was kind of cool and it fits in well with the dark fairytale vibe that the story has but it also gets a bit annoying after awhile and makes things confusing sometimes. In the same way it's also a pretty unique story which I always like but there isn't a lot of actual explanation for a lot of things so I felt a bit let down by the end of it. Overall a decent and pretty quick read that I'd recommend if you're just looking for something different, but it didn't blow me away. Great cover though.

This might be my new favorite Halloween novel. The cover art is fantastical, which I guess the literal story is, but it's really a book about grief and the sinister milieu of what we call Americana.
Glad I gave this one a shot. It wasn’t super long, but it grabbed me with its “oddness” and then sped up.
Totally suitable for teens. A bit of bad language. Mostly the weirdness of the setting helps the violence seem extra creepy. There is violence, and descriptions of gore. Good story for sure.

This was a fun read. I like the concept and the pacing. The narrative style is different and initially put me off, but once I saw how it supports the story it clicked for me. There’s not a lot of fat to this book, which I appreciate. You only get enough back story to understand the stakes of everything. It gives it all an air of mystery I enjoyed. I think others would enjoy this as long as they can suspend their disbelief and just go with it. If you can’t do that, then this book isn’t for you.
