Better than the first, but still not great. The writing (or editing) has improved some, but not enough. Still, I'm a sucker for Shade and Cal. Hoping for a redeeming conclusion.

TPL Reading Challenge 2023: A book you’ve read more than once
Read this one a second time via audiobook to discuss it with a friend who is reading the series for the first time. This was the first series I read when I was getting back into reading for pleasure post high school and for that reason it continues to hold a place in my heart. I have clear memories of reading the first one on a hiking trip and devouring fifty to a hundred pages in a sitting. Even then I acknowledged it was kind of trash, but it was entertaining and addictive. Since then, I have read more widely and found books that execute what this book is trying to do more successfully. I probably would be less generous with my rating if I read it for the first time now, especially for this instalment. With all that said, I still flew through the book and that certainly counts for something. Looking forward to talking about it with my friend and watching her experience all the twists and turns for the first time.
