Quite slow and repetetive of the 'Traitor Queen' plot. Did drag at times and the romance seemed to become intense quite quickly, but ending has made me intrigued to finish the duology.

A solid romantasy.
I gave the first two books 5 stars. This isn't better or worse, but my taste in books has just changed since I read those.
Fast-paced and fun. I like both main characters. Curious how it will evolve.

If I had known this book happens at the same time as The Traitor Queen, I probably would have read them together. If you’re looking for a story that follows Lara and Aren, you might be a little disappointed since they only make a few appearances.

Zarrah and Keris are the stars here, and I really enjoyed their story. They spend the whole book dealing with the pressures of their roles and the challenges that come with being part of kingdoms at war. Through it all, their love gives them hope that they can make a difference. Seeing the war from this perspective added a lot to the world and the story.

I’m excited to see how the next book continues the mix of love, war, and life in this world.
